Support our work
Schizophrenia is one of the most poorly understood and under-resourced of all mental health conditions, especially considering that it affects about one in a hundred people worldwide. There is a dire need to assist and support people suffering from this illness.
A vital cog in the treatment process is family support. Our organisation was founded in Cape Town more than forty years ago as a family support group for the relatives and carers of people living with schizophrenia. We are a registered non-profit organisation run by members on a voluntary basis. With the advent of Zoom, our reach has extended across Southern Africa.
Our About page gives a more detailed picture of our work, governance and history.
We do not receive grants of any kind, government or otherwise. To be inclusive as possible, our membership fee is set at a nominal amount, currently R150 per family per year.
To enable us to continue delivering our information and support services to members and the public, we need to supplement our income from membership fees with ongoing fundraising initiatives.

We invite you to support our work by making a donation, or by making Family Support for Schizophrenia a MySchool beneficiary.
You are also welcome to contact us if you would like to discuss options such as remembering us in your will, supporting a specific project, or providing any other form of assistance.
By doing so, you will be making a significant contribution towards improving outcomes for people living with schizophrenia and helping to build a more tolerant and equitable society.
Every contribution is greatly appreciated.
