Meetings

Our free monthly online support group meetings are open to anyone who is interested. Most take the form of a talk by a guest speaker followed by an interactive Q&A session.

Speakers include professionals, practitioners and people with lived experience, as well as service providers and representatives of mental health organisations, who speak on topics related to schizophrenia and serious mental illness.

Caring & Sharing meetings are held once or twice a year and offer a space for participants to ask their own questions, share their experiences and perspectives, or simply attend and listen to the input of others.

Upcoming meetings are advertised on our website, in our monthly newsletter and in the Cape Town community newspapers.

An evening of Caring & Sharing

An online meeting facilitated by

Leigh Haselau

Social worker

Wasima Fisher

Social worker

Our July meeting will take the form of an evening of Caring & Sharing.

The meeting provides an opportunity for participants to ask questions, raise concerns or problems, seek advice, make connections, share encouraging stories, or simply to attend and listen to the input of others.

Caring & Sharing meetings are particularly useful for people who have a family member or friend who has recently been diagnosed with schizophrenia. They also offer a chance to understand the circumstances of fellow participants a little better.

There will not be a formal speaker at the meeting but Leigh Haselau and Wasima Fisher, both of whom are practising social workers, will facilitate the discussion. The meeting is open to anyone who is interested, and you do not need to be a member of FSS to attend. The meeting will not be recorded, and all issues raised will remain confidential.

You are invited to submit your questions or issues beforehand, to help us make sure that the facilitators are suitably prepared. Please send to mail@familysupport.co.za before Friday 25 July. You may also raise questions or issues directly in the meeting.
